Bottom Line?
What are your performance standards?
What would an increase in your overall ratings mean to your bottom line?
How do you track and measure you team's performance?
Do the members of your organization know what's expected of them?
Does each person know their current performance rating?
What is the value to each person for an increase rating?
What incentives do people have for increasing their performance?
8:  Maintaining
Be prepared to defend nominations against your pre-established goals, objectives and / or measures; otherwise, the program could degrade into a lottery or rotation and quickly lose its credibility.

Some organizations prefer a formal review process where the nominating party must complete a form detailing the employee's accomplishments.  This for usually goes through several levels of review.  If your organization is small with few levels of management, a committee of employees could serve as the reviewing party.

When announcing and giving recognition include an equal and appropriate amount of fanfare as you did in the introduction phase.  Publicize the winner in newsletters and other forms of communication.

Clearly announce the name of the winner and WHY they were selected.  This helps reinforce outstanding performance and clarifies what type of performance will be rewarded.
