To
be effective, recognition must be the result of
accomplishment. Recognition can be from the
organization, managers, fellow employees or the
public.
For
many, recognition is the only way they can evaluate
their achievement and contribution to organizational
objectives. Studies indicate recognizing
performance can increase employees' motivation to
sustain and/or improve performance.
Regardless
of how recognition is done, its motivational value
improves with frequent reinforcement.
Effective
recognition programs:
-
Define what will be rewarded, - Value the act of
recognition, - Place importance on the program, - Measure
progress.
